What do Wellton’s homes say about the dumpster you need?

Almost half of Wellton’s homes are mobile homes, and many sit empty part of the year. That points to cleanouts and smaller boxes, not big builds.

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024, via Census Reporter.

Almost half the homes in town are mobile homes. Nearly 1 in 3 units is seasonal. The median resident is 65.5 years old, the oldest of any town we cover.

The town is small, with about 2,671 people in the Census estimate for July 2025. That’s up 12.5% since the 2020 Census count of 2,375. Only 11 new housing units were permitted in Wellton in 2025. So most dumpster jobs here are likely cleanouts, downsizing, yard work and mobile-home swaps.

Doesn’t the Town’s trash pickup cover this?

It covers household trash. We found no Town program for big loads like an old shed or a whole-house cleanout.

The Town of Wellton runs its own trash service, out of Town Hall at 28634 Oakland Ave. Its Public Works crew drives the residential route. In August 2026 the Town posted a notice when a broken truck delayed pickup. It said the crew would come back that weekend to finish.

We found no Town bulk-pickup program on its website as of November 1, 2026. Call Town Hall at (928) 785-3348 to ask whether one exists before you book a dumpster.

When is the Wellton transfer site open?

Only Sunday and Monday, 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It’s closed on holidays, and the Town says there may be a charge.

The Wellton Transfer Site is a Yuma County site at 12850 S. Avenue 29E. The Town describes it as about a mile and a half south of Wellton, on the west side of Avenue 29E. It takes household loads, not commercial ones.

The County also runs the Tacna Transfer Site, open on different days. Together, the Wellton and Tacna sites are open four days a week.

Hours come from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (July 10, 2025), the County’s July 2026 guide and the Town of Wellton. The Sheriff lists the Wellton site as free, while the Town says there may be a charge. Call Yuma County Public Works at 928-341-2500 to confirm before you load up.

The County’s rules are the same at every transfer site. You get one load per day, in one truck bed or one trailer. Commercial, industrial and oversize loads are refused. See the Wellton Transfer Site details and the Tacna site hours in our dump guide.

That works for a few bags or one pickup load. A full mobile-home cleanout could take many Sundays and Mondays. That’s when a roll-off saves the trips.

Too much for one truck bed a day? Call (928) 296-5462 and ask what size fits.

Where does a Wellton dumpster load go?

The hauler takes it to a site that accepts roll-off loads. By address, the closer landfill is Copper Mountain, on County 12th Street in Wellton.

Copper Mountain Landfill is at 34853 E. County 12th St, Wellton, AZ 85356. Its phone is (928) 785-3797. A 2021 ADEQ notice says Republic Services runs it as a municipal solid waste landfill. The Sheriff’s Office lists it for commercial, industrial and large loads.

We found no official hours or per-ton rate for Copper Mountain. The ADEQ notice is from 2021, so it’s older. Call the landfill to confirm who runs it today. Read more about Copper Mountain Landfill.

I-8 is the main route east from Yuma and the Foothills to Wellton. Which site gets your load is up to the hauler. If you’re billed for overage, ask for the landfill’s scale ticket. Here’s how overage charges work in Yuma.

Please don’t use the open desert instead. The Sheriff’s Office says illegal dumping ranges from a class 2 misdemeanor to a class 6 felony. See why desert dumping is a crime.

Do I need a permit to put a dumpster on a Wellton street?

We found no posted Town rule either way. Call Wellton Town Hall at (928) 785-3348 before you place a dumpster on a street.

Wellton is an incorporated town, so a City of Yuma street permit doesn’t cover it. The Town’s forms page lists a Building Permit Application and a Mobile Home Placement Permit Application. It lists no encroachment or street-use form, as of November 1, 2026.

Town Hall is open Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., per the Town website. Plan your call for one of those days.

On your own driveway or lot, the street question goes away. Check the truck’s path first. One national broker says its trucks need about 60 feet of straight-line space and 23 to 25 feet of overhead clearance. On a manufactured-home lot, look for carports, awnings and power lines along that path.

If you live in an RV park or a community with an HOA, ask the office before you book. Read our guide to driveway, street and park placement, including the RV park tips.

Swapping out an old mobile home

The Town lists a Mobile Home Placement Permit for setting a home on a lot. Ask Town Hall what it needs before the old home comes out. Taking a whole home apart is demolition, not a cleanout. See demolition and construction dumpsters for that.

What size dumpster fits a Wellton manufactured-home or RV-lot job?

Start with a 10-yard on a tight lot. Step up to a 15 or 20-yard when the lot has room and the cleanout is large.

Wellton jobSize to ask about firstWhy
Carport, shed or storage-room cleanout10-yardSmall load, small footprint
Cleanout of a furnished single-wide10 or 15-yardFurniture and boxes fill space fast
Full double-wide cleanout before a sale15 or 20-yardMore room for furniture, carpet and paneling
Old gravel, pavers or a broken concrete pad10-yardRock and concrete hit the weight limit first
Skirting, steps and an old awning10 or 15-yardBulky but light

The 10-yard is about 14 feet long, 7.5 feet wide and 3.5 feet high, and holds about 3 pickup loads. The 15-yard is about 15 to 16 feet long and holds about 4.5 to 5 pickup loads. The 20-yard is about 22 feet long and holds about 6.

See the 10-yard dumpster dimensions, the in-between 15-yard size or the 20-yard for bigger cleanouts. The full size guide compares all five.

Fridges and AC units hold refrigerant and need special handling. Tires and lead-acid batteries can’t go in at all. Check what can go in a dumpster before you load.

When should winter residents book a Wellton dumpster?

Closed-up manufactured home with covered patio furniture and a small dumpster in the drive

Book once you know your arrival or departure date. Set pickup a few days before you leave town.

Across Yuma County, an ASU study found 34% of seasonal homeowners arrive in October. It found 57% leave in April. The study is from the 2017–18 season, published in 2019, so it’s older. It’s still the latest headcount we found.

With nearly a third of Wellton’s homes seasonal, fall and spring are busy times. A fall open-up often means old furniture, sun-rotted cushions and yard debris. A spring close-up often means clearing a home before a sale.

If you won’t be in town for pickup, ask the hauler how that works when you book. Read our tips for snowbird open-up and close-up cleanouts.

Should I get a dumpster or junk removal for a Wellton cleanout?

Pick a dumpster if you can load it yourself over a few days. Pick junk removal if you can’t lift heavy items or need it gone in one visit.

A dumpster suits a family clearing a parent’s home at its own pace. Junk removal suits one heavy recliner, a hot tub or a few appliances. The crew does the lifting, and you pay for that labor.

The network also offers junk removal, and prices are confirmed on the call. Read about junk removal in the Yuma area, or compare dumpster or junk removal, which costs less.
